Protik Overview

The Protik ICT Resource Center is established by the combined efforts and goals of the Government of Albania, USAID, Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF), Microsoft, Cisco, and Albtelecom. Established as a local non for profit organization on October the 10th, 2012, Protik’s mission is to catalyze the development of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in Albania. The accomplishment of its mission was founded and will continue to be inspired on the values of Integrity, Excellence, Transparency, Collaboration and Cooperation. Protik aims to become the Albanian ICT hub: a connection point for those seeking the latest and most innovative ideas, products, and services.

As an ICT resource center, Protik will have a significant effect on long run productive activities in other sectors of the economy, through: promoting innovation and creativity, facilitating the creation of links between the ICT sector and other sectors of the economy; increasing the know – how of non ICT people on ICT related subjects, promoting the best practices and international standards, providing access in training and technology to underprivileged groups, etc. Doing so, the impact of ICT will become even more noticeable.

Protik has the following goals:

·         Promote networking and partnership


Protik's Partners

Protik will play a central role in stimulating the growth of the ICT sector in Albania. The resource center will help create a better ICT business environment by improving standards and educational opportunities, as well as advocate with its partners to ensure that the sector will attract new businesses and investments. Founders and partners are Protik’s most important resource. This partnership is a consortium of businesses, non for profit and government entities that promote the skills needed to compete in an innovation – driven economy.

Albanian - American Development Foundation

The Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) supports the development and expansion of a market economy and democratic society in Albania. It represents a strong tradition of friendship and goodwill between the United States and Albania and promotes the exchange of ideas and experience between people of both countries.



Microsoft is one of the biggest and most influential companies in the ICT industry worldwide. Microsoft Corporation engages in developing, licensing, and supporting a range of software products and services, by designing and selling hardware devices, and by delivering relevant online advertising to a customer audience worldwide.



Cisco Systems, Inc. is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Today, networks are an essential part of business, education, government, and home communications. Cisco has pioneered the use of the Internet in its own business practice and offers consulting services based on its experience to help other organizations around the world.



Albtelecom sha (a shortening of Albanian Telecom) is the Albanian incumbent operator and largest fixed line and internet service provider.

  Aleksandër Sarapuli, Chairman of the Board

Mr. Sarapuli has twenty six years of combined management and consulting experience in private equity, project finance, project management, economic and financial feasibility analyses, technology and commodity procurement, and marketing. He joined the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund in 1996 and has been Co-CEO since 2010. His former work experience includes co-founding and managing partner of the Business Advisory Unit (BAU), business adviser for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Albania, and marketing and procurement manager at a private company. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the Faculty of Economics in Tirana. Mr. Sarapuli has participated in many intensive training programs on private equity, finance, management and more. He has been a Co-CEO at the Albanian-American Development Foundation since 2013.


 Martin Mata, Member of the Board

Mr. Mata has twenty six years of combined management experience in the public and private sector, strategic planning, advanced investment, economic and market analysis, extensive political analysis, and human resources development. He began working for the Albanian –American Enterprise Fund in 2000 and became a Co-CEO in 2010. His former work experience includes working as General Manager of Mercedes-Benz for Albania, part-time political adviser to the Albanian Prime Minister, political adviser at the American Embassy in Tirana, and PR Manager at the National Agency for Privatization. He holds a B.A. in English History & Language, and an MBA from a joint program between the University of Nebraska and the Faculty of Economics, University of Tirana. He has been a Co-CEO at the Albanian-American Development Foundation since 2013.


   Vilma Tomço, Vice Chairman of the Board

Mrs. Tomco is the Director of European Agenda for IT Department at the Ministry of Innovation and Public Administration. She is graduated on computer sciences on 1989 at Faculty of natural sciences in Tirana University and has an experience of 24 years on telecommunication field and participating on many projects on IT and telecommunication. Lecturer at Economic faculty in Tirana University for Informatics and candidate for PhD.





   Agim Bekaj, Member of the Board

Mr. Bekaj, is the General Director of Microsoft in Albania since December 2013. He is a corporate level experienced manager with a multidimensional career. Mr. Bekaj started his working experience as the manager of Trepca Industrial Complex and has also been a lecturer at the University of Pristina. Mr, Bekaj has worked for several international organizations as EU, OSCE, and IOM. He has worked in the private sector and has been engaged as a consultant to the Office of the Prime Minister. Mr. Bekaj served as an AMCHAM Board member in Kosovo and now is a member of Protik Board and of many organizations and humane societies in Kosovo and Albania. Since 2006 Mr. Bekaj has worked for Microsoft in Kosovo.





   Enio Jaço, Member of the Board


Mr. Jaço is the Founder and Executive Director of CBS, Creative Business Solutions, and a business development consulting organization. In partnership with USAID, CBS implements AgroCapital, a $1.5 Million 3-year program that facilitates financing for agriculture. He has more than 16 years of international and local experience in senior Banking & Development positions.  Prior to CBS, he worked with DAI, Development Alternatives, Inc., an international development company based in Washington, D.C. He worked in Afghanistan for two years where he managed ADF (Agriculture Development Fund), a $100M loan budget portfolio and a USAID-funded program. Earlier, he was a senior manager at Raiffeisen Bank Albania where he supervised SME, Micro lending and set up the bank’s Premium banking segment. Enio worked for 12 years in New York as Vice President of JPMorgan Chase bank and American Express. He received his B.S. degree from Polytechnic University of Tirana and his Masters of Engineering Management from Cornell University, USA.



   Dritan Mezini, Member of the Board


Mr. Mezini is the founder and the Executive Director of DM Consulting Services in Albania and in Kosovo. With over 20 years’ progressive experience, Dritan brings an extraordinary depth of expertise in IT management, project management, communication, HR and analysis of business processes. He is a long-established expert in diverse, complex, global industries and multi-million dollar business initiatives. Dritan graduated from the University of Tirana, Albania with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Computer Sciences. He holds two Master degrees – in Business Administration with concentration in Management Information Systems from Western Illinois University in Macomb,IL, USA and in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management, Devry University of Chicago, IL, USA. Dritan is an active member of numerous professional associations. He also holds the position of Board Chairman of Albanian Information Communication Technology Association (AITA), Head of HR Committee at AmCham Albania, and President of Albanian Fulbright Alumni Association (AFAA).
